ID Fellow David Nguyen wins CIS/Behring Fellowship
The Clinical Immunology Society (CIS) and CSL Behring are pleased to announce that David Nguyen, MD PhD is the recipient of the 2018 Fellowship Award, which offers an award to one (1) individual in the third or fourth year of their fellowship program with a concentration or focus on primary immunodeficiency. The 2018 Fellowship Award will provide one (1) individual a one-year grant in the amount of $60,000.
The objective of the grant is to support the development of academic clinical immunology research careers of advanced fellows-in-training who have demonstrated commitment to the study of primary immunodeficiency as a career path in North America. Funding is to support the education and research endeavors of this individual. This award is made possible by a generous unrestricted grant from CSL Behring.
Dr. Nguyen’s project proposal was titled: “Correcting Genetic Defects Associated with Severe Combined Immunodeficiency”. He will be conducting genome-wise screens using CRISPR-Cas9 gene knockout to discover genes that might not previously have been known to cause SCID. He will also be using CRISPR-Cas9 technology to develop technology for correcting defective genes in a patients own stem cells, with a goal of developing novel gene correction therapies. His research will be presented at a future annual meeting of the Clinical Immunology Society.
